Don't worry about it! Weight naturally fluctuates and is never totally stagnant. It is normal to feel defeated or frustrated by seeing the scale not go in the direction you want but this is a totally normal part of the process.
If you are in a fat loss phase and your weight went up here are a couple of reasons why it may have gone up that have nothing to do with actual fat gain:
- Water Retention:
- Weight training causes an increase ion water retention in muscle cells resulting in a swelling like effect that can results in weight increase.
- Higher sodium consumption can lead to an increase in water retention
- Hormonal fluctuations, particularly in females can result in changes in water weight and the weight on the scale.
- Stress goes hand in hand with hormonal fluctuations.
- Glycogen stores are sugar stores inside the muscle cells. When glycogen stores increase, the body will hold more water inside the cell.
- Muscle Gain:
- Muscles can grow in a fat loss phase resulting in slight weight changes. This occurs in a few instances, but still a possible reason.
- Digestive Content:
- The food you eat can have a dramatic effect on your weight. If you were to eat 200 calories of broccoli, you're going to have quite a bit of weight you just added simply by eating a lot of food even if it fit within your caloric needs for the day.
