Why is there no rest timer?

At RP Strength, the RP Hypertrophy App is built to help you train smart, not just hard. You won’t find a rest timer in the app, and that’s intentional. Here’s why:

Rest is Personal, Not Prescriptive

Rest between sets isn’t a one-size-fits-all number. It depends on your goals, the exercise, and how you feel. A heavy deadlift might need 3-5 minutes to recover, while a light bicep curl could be ready in 60 seconds. Instead of locking you into a generic timer, the app trusts you to listen to your body—rest until you’re ready to perform at your best. This flexibility ensures you’re not rushing through soreness or fatigue, which, as Dr. Mike Israetel notes, can derail progress if you’re not recovered. You can refer to our how much should you rest article here.

Recovery Isn’t Timed, It’s Felt

A rest timer might rush you into the next set before you’re recovered, especially on sore days. Instead, the app lets you decide how long to rest based on how your muscles feel—mild soreness might mean a short break, while heavy DOMS could mean skipping or adjusting. No preset countdown can match that.

Practical Training, Your Way

Soreness, fatigue, and daily energy vary. As Dr. Mike might say, “Don’t be a hero”—if you’re sore or if you are huffing and puffing still, and you need an extra minute, take it. The app’s design reflects this: it adapts to your input and progress, not rigid rules. You’re in control, and that’s how we keep it effective.
